UNESCO adopts the Universal Declaration on Archives

The General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) voted on 7 November 2011 to adopt the Universal Declaration on Archives, drawn up by the International Council on Archives (ICA).  You can read it here:


It’s nice to know that archives are so important: we are an aid to “administrative transparency and democratic accountability”, as well as “the preservation of collective social memory”, according to the statement that was released after the decision was taken (http://thearchivistswatch.wordpress.com/2011/11/07/universal-declaration-on-archives/)
